Our Wines / Celler Batea
Celler Batea wines reflect the winegrowing culture of our region by fully developing the potential of those two grape varieties which lie at the heart of our history: red and white Garnacha.
In the great majority of our wines – from dry whites to reds to dessert wines, it is the red and white Garnacha grapes that play the predominant role. They are versatile and lend themselves to the making of different types of wine, contributing the personality of an environment in which they have been cultivated over the past thousand years.
Celler Batea wines are born in our vineyards, but it’s in the winery itself, after carefully selecting from the harvested grapes, where these are transformed. Concrete tanks for white wines and stainless steel ones for red wines are now filled and the must is then cooled to await the beginning of fermentation.
These are the moments when time is of the essence, a time of hustle and bustle, when the winery begins to come to life. The air is full of intense fruity aromas and, after a year of hard work in the fields, these aromas signal the birth of a new vintage and lead on to a careful process of control and to the selection of the best batches for bottling.
“Patience” is one of the key words we like most at Celler Batea, for we give our wines all the time necessary for them to develop their full potential.
In line with this premise, ageing takes place in 300 litre barrels. These are principally of French oak, sourced from different coopers and used for a maximum of 7 years. Careful time management is fundamental, for through our wines we are aiming at an accurate expression of the environment from which they come.
